Here’s a full 4-day itinerary to help you make the most of your trip. With no shortage of activities, here’s what you can do in Freycinet.  

 

Day 1 – Welcome to Freycinet Lodge  

Arrive: You'll arrive at the picturesque Freycinet Lodge, nestled within the beautiful expanse of the national park, only minutes away from the iconic Wineglass Bay. On arrival, check in and get comfortable–you’re staying in the heart of the wilderness.  Before you head out into nature’s playground, take a moment to settle into your cosy room, have a welcome drink from the inclusive mini bar and admire the coastal bushland views.  

Afternoon: Start your afternoon with a leisurely walk and admire the wonders of Freycinet National Park. If you’re looking for a tranquil spot to unwind and relax, look no further than Honeymoon Bay. A short 500m stroll from the lodge, located at the far end of the property, promises a quiet spot to reconnect with nature and decompress after a day of activities and travel. This is one of the loveliest beaches on the peninsula, so don’t forget your camera to capture the stunning blue waters sparkling in the afternoon sun under the Hazards Mountain range.  

Return to the lodge and take a seat by the crackling fire before joining our hosted food and wine tasting, Flavours of the East Coast. This afternoon treat will allow you to sample delicious produce and matched wines from around the region whilst you share tasting notes and learn about the local history from our team.  

Evening: As the evening rolls around, take a trip to visit Bicheno and experience a penguin tour. This small town on Tassie’s East Coast is only half an hour away from Freycinet. Departing at dusk, you’ll be whisked away to see these adorable little creatures as they come ashore after dark. Conducted on private property by a group of passionate volunteers, you’ll get the opportunity to see penguins in their natural habitat. Make sure to wear enclosed shoes and warm clothing – especially during the cooler months. 

 

Day 2 – Wineglass Bay Cruise and wine tasting 

Morning: Wake up in tranquility and get ready for a full day of adventure. 

Start your morning with complimentary breakfast, before you get ready to embark on the Wineglass Bay Cruise.  

Head down to the jetty, located at the lodge and check in for the cruise at 9.30am. Departing at 10am sharp for a 4.5 hour journey, you’ll cruise the spectacular coastline of Freycinet National Park from Coles Bay to Wineglass Bay. 

Your package includes tickets for The Vista Lounge, which boasts floor to ceiling windows for optimum viewing and a spacious outdoor deck, so you’ll be fully immersed in the experience.  

Lunch will be served onboard as you discover some of Tasmania’s hidden gems, including the sparkling white sand of Cooks and Bryans beaches. Float along the inner passage of the remote Schouten Island, where you might spot some penguins and native wildlife. There are hidden sea caves, blowholes and waterfalls all waiting for you.  

As your boat glides across the water, you’ll be captivated by the beauty of the pristine Freycinet Peninsula, marvelling at the cliffs that frame this natural wonder. Uncover the rich history of the region and soak up nature's beauty before returning to the land. 

Afternoon: You’ll disembark from the cruise around 2.30pm and relax before setting off on a late afternoon adventure to explore the East Coast Wine Tour. Only 30 minutes from Freycinet Lodge, the region boasts world-renowned vineyards, attracting travellers from all over the globe. Whether you’re a well-seasoned wine connoisseur or simply have an appreciation for all the different flavours, visiting the wine trail promises an unforgettable experience.  

Evening: As the day comes to an end, continue on your tasting journey and sample a few wines or house made cocktails from Hazards Bar and Lounge as you relax on the lodge deck and watch the sun go down over the ocean. This is known to be one of the best spots to witness the incredible East Coast sunsets, and the winter months, whilst a little fresh are just as spectacular when it comes to the dreamy orange and pink skies. 

 

Day 3 – Kayaking, walking and relaxing  

Morning: Prepare to embark on Tasmania’s greatest kayaking tour with the Freycinet Paddle. The experience is included in your Freycinet Escape Package and departs from Coles Bay. This 3-hour guided expedition of the Freycinet coastline is a unique way to explore the area.  

Glide beneath pink granite mountains, paddle by white sandy beaches and gaze into the crystal-clear blue water. The team will show you how to use all the gear and help you get familiar with the kayaks; you’ll be a professional in no time.  

If you’re hoping to get up close and personal with Freycinet’s native wildlife – this is the activity for you. Keep an eye out for sea eagles, sting rays, fur seals and the magical possibility of dolphins and whales passing through the tranquil waters of Coles Bay.  

The knowledgeable tour guides will teach you all about Freycinet’s rich history, as you relax by the ocean with a fresh coffee and some tasty snacks. Blending adventure, serenity and a deep appreciation of this incredible environment, you’ll leave feeling recharged and reconnected with nature. 

Afternoon: After witnessing the incredible Wineglass Bay and Freycinet peninsula from the water with Pennicot Journey’s cruise, opt for a different perspective and explore the stunning coastline and pristine white sands by foot. Departing from the visitor car park, the Wineglass Bay Lookout track will take you just over an hour return, at 1.3km each way. Perfect for a short stroll at a relaxing pace. 

The walking trail moves through coastal bushland, so comfortable shoes are best for this outing. You might be lucky enough to spot some of the native wildlife out and about. Once you reach the top, soak in that beautiful view and get the camera ready for a breathtaking shot of Wineglass Bay. Completely immerse yourself in the picturesque and peaceful surroundings. You may choose to end your walk here and return to the Lodge for some well-deserved R&R, If you feel like extending your walk and venturing down to the famous beach, follow the downhill track that splits off from the lookout trail. Set aside an extra 2-3 hours to walk the 6km along the shore – take your time, you’re on holidays after all. 

After a day of exploring, take it easy, head back to the lodge and get ready for an in-room massage. Guests can choose from a range of massage types and even build a personal in-room spa experience. Slow down and allow yourself the chance to reset, relax and recharge. 

Evening: Fine dining in Tasmania will be one of the highlights of your trip. You’ll get the opportunity to indulge in Tasmania’s finest produce during your stay at Freycinet Lodge, as your package includes a $300 credit to spend at any of our food and beverage providers. Day 4 – Morning golf  

Morning: Soak up every moment of your holiday on your last morning in Freycinet. Once you finish eating breakfast, make your way down to the Freycinet Golf Club, near Coles Bay.
