Freycinet Lodge is located in the food bowl of Tasmania—the state’s east coast. This region is home to some of the island’s finest producers, offering everything from succulent seafood, to fine wine, juicy berries and creamy artisan cheeses, all within reach of the Lodge.
The land of plenty
The east coast is well known for fresh seafood, harvested from the region’s clean, cool waters. Premium oysters, mussels, abalone, lobster and scallops are all fished or farmed here, and exported all over the world. The East Coast Wine Trail follows the route of the Great Eastern Drive and includes some of the state’s best winemakers. Visit a cellar door to chat with winemakers and sample award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and sparkling wines, among many other varieties.
The east coast’s mild climate and fertile soil also produces premium olive oil, berry and stone fruits, honey and walnuts. Farm gates and farmers markets offer a wonderful opportunity to buy direct from the grower, and providores along the coast stock a tempting selection of the region’s best delicacies.
The Food and Beverage team at Freycinet Lodge take full advantage of our abundant local produce. We have long-established relationships with the region’s finest producers, and our executive chef sources the best seasonal produce for our exceptional menus at the Bay Restaurant and Richardson’s Bistro.
Visit Providore Wineglass at Freycinet Lodge to browse the selection of local produce, wine and gifts, and check with our Reception staff for tastings.
You can also visit local producers and farm gates—try Freycinet Marine Farm and Melshell Oysters to sample freshly harvested oysters and mussels, and visit Kate’s Berry Farm for just-picked summer berries, handmade chocolates and delicious preserves.
