A perfect way to spend Christmas Day on Tasmania’s east coast is treating yourself to a relaxing Christmas lunch or dinner at The Bay Restaurant. Complete with a cold seafood buffet, hot carvery with traditional Christmas meats, roasted vegetables, salads and of course dessert.

Freycinet Lodge Head Chef, Trent Thompson offers insight into what’s on offer across the years festive season.

How many years has Freycinet Lodge been offering Christmas day lunch and dinner to locals, guests and visitors of the region?

Freycinet Lodge has been hosting Christmas Day lunch and dinner from its very beginning, that’s 24 years!

Can you tell us what a few of the highlights are from the menu?

This year we will be offering everyone’s favourite traditional Christmas meats and seafood. What makes our menu special is that our seafood is fresh and local with predominately Tasmanian meats. Whole poached Tasmanian salmon, marinated Spring Bay mussels and oysters from Melshell Oysters are just some of the locally sourced seafood that will be on the menu. The hot carvery will feature Cape Grim sirloin and roasted Scottsdale pork and honey-baked Scottsdale ham.

What’s on offer for dessert?

A dessert buffet! My pick is the traditional Christmas pudding with brandy sauce which is always a popular choice for guests. Our assorted cakes will be yule logs, mud cakes, cheese cakes, apple strudel and trifles.

Aside from the Christmas menu what else will the Lodge offer to celebrate the festive season?

This year the Lodge will take a traditional Christmas approach from menu to decorations and inclusions. We will have tables set with bon bons, candy canes and simple Christmas theming throughout the Lodge. From the Hazards Bar and Lounge guests will able to kick start the festivities with eggnog.

A five course New Year’s Eve menu that will again feature local and Tasmanian produce. We are working towards having a fully themed New Year’s event for 2018 which will be a huge addition to the festive season celebrations in the area.

What does the team most look forward to in the lead up to Christmas day at the Lodge?

The team mostly looks forward to happy guests and warm sunny days at the beach!
