The Great Eastern Wine Weekend

The Great Eastern Wine Weekend is held annually and is a showcase of the region’s finest food and wine.

The festivities kick off on the evening of Friday 8 September with 'Meet the Maker' and continue throughout the weekend with a variety of cellar door specials and events.

Visit vineyards along the Great Eastern Drive, cruise with Wineglass Bay Cruises and stay at Freycinet Lodge for 'Meet the Maker' and the ‘Great Eastern Wine and Dine’ gala dinner. While you're here, take a paddle with Freycinet Adventures or explore the hiking trails of the Freycinet Peninsula.

Freycinet Lodge

Meet the Maker | Freycinet Lodge | Friday 8 September

From 6pm to 9pm a range of winemakers from the east coast region will be providing free wine tastings, product sales, information and good conversation the deck of Freycinet Lodge. Delicious gourmet BBQ items will be available for purchase including BBQ pork ribs, steamed mussels, crispy duck and freshly shucked oysters by Melshell Oysters - who will also be attending. BBQ items will be priced at $12 each. Should you require additional wine we will have plenty available for purchase! The event is open to the public and bookings are not required.

Cellar Door Stops

Take the time to explore the vineyards throughout the Great Eastern Drive on Tasmania's East Coast. Vineyards and their cellar doors will be open and providing various special offers for the Great Eastern Wine Weekend.

The Bay Restaurant at Freycinet Lodge

The Great Eastern Wine and Dine Dinner | Freycinet Lodge | Saturday 9 September | $130pp

Join us for a relaxed sunset feast overlooking Great Oyster Bay from 6pm for canapés and pre-dinner drinks, followed by a four course dinner featuring gourmet Tasmanian shared platters matched to a selection of east coast wines. Each wine will be presented by its respective wine maker.

Wine guru Tim Goddard from Cool Wines and Freycinet Vineyard wine maker Claudio Radenti will host the evening along with guest speaker Rick Burge. Rick Burge of ‘Burge Family Wines’ is an organic grower and wine maker from the Barossa and holds 40 years’ experience in the industry. Rick is also a wine judge and as a regular visitor to Tasmania, is a big believer in the Tasmanian wine industry and its exciting future.


Long table seating will be offered – in true feasting fashion! Make sure you stick around after the dinner for a dance to live entertainment by Clinton Hutton. Bookings are required. Click here to view the platter menu.

A minimum two night stay package is available at Freycinet Lodge from $553.50 for auto club members, and $738 for non-members. The package includes two nights’ accommodation, breakfast and dinner at the Great Eastern Wine and Dine event for two people.

Wine in wineglass

Wine in Wineglass | Saturday 9 September | 10am | $169pp

Experience the spectacular Wineglass Bay Cruise in the Sky Lounge with hosts Tim Goddard & Rick Burge.

Director of Cool Wines Hobart - Tim Goddard brings to the Great Eastern Wine Weekend over 25 years’ experience in the wine industry.  He has extensive experience and tenure as a qualified wine judge, has been the head of many a select tasting panel and is an educator and long term player in the Tasmanian wine industry.

Rick Burge of ‘Burge Family Wines’ is an organic grower and wine maker from the Barossa and holds 40 years’ experience in the industry. Rick is also a wine judge and as a regular visitor to Tasmania, is a big believer in the Tasmanian wine industry and its exciting future.

The cruise includes local wine tastings, morning and afternoon tea, freshly shucked oysters, Tasmanian salmon and a delicious Ploughmans bento box lunch. Along with fantastic hosts and the opportunity to watch for migrating whales while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Wine grapes

Lunch in the Winery  | Craigie Knowe | Saturday 9 September 12 noon - 3pm | $95pp

Craigie Knowe have been working tirelessly to give the property’s original winery a new lease on life as a gorgeous rustic cellar door and the location for their very first winery lunch.

Saturday 9 September will be the official launch of this new cellar door and the official launch of their latest 2017 wines including their Rose, Pinot Gris, Estate Riesling, Chardonnay and White Label Pinot. Attendees of the lunch will be the first to sample the wines and experience the beautiful aesthetic of their new cellar door and vineyard over a delicious three course wine-matched lunch of local produce including seafood, roast lamb, pig on the spit from Long Name Farm plus homemade dessert and cheese platters to finish. Bookings are required and spaced are limited.
